PROFILE
AKIO MIMURA is the Honorary Chairman of Nippon Steel Corporation. Most of his career in Nippon Steel has been related to marketing and sales for the customers in manufacturing sector, such as automobile, construction, shipbuilding, home electric appliances, and industrial machines. He became Representative Director and President of Nippon Steel Corporation in 2003, Representative Director and Chairman in 2008.
He served as the Chairman of World Steel Association (formerly IISI) from 2004 to 2005, and Vice Chairman of Japan Business Federation (KEIDANREN) from 2005 to 2009. He has been the Chairman of the Japan-Australia Business Corporation Committee since 2008, and the Chairman of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as the Chairman of the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 2013.
In addition to his career in business, Mr. Mimura currently serves as the Chairman of several councils for the Government of Japan, including the Cabinet Office, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
Mr. Mimura graduated from Tokyo University in Economics. He also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, Honorary Doctorate in Science from Australian National University, an Honorary Companion (AC) of the Order of Australia (2012).
