Maya Prabhu

PROFILE
Maya Prabhu is an Associate Professor in the Division of Law and Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine. She serves as a Consulting Forensic Psychiatrist for the Department of Mental Health conducting risk assessments of complex psychiatric patients. She is also a psychiatrist at the Yale Refugee Health Clinic and has extensive experience with asylum and refugee evaluations. She has lectured nationally and internationally on issues related to refugee health, secondary trauma in health and legal professionals, and policy issues at the nexus of health and international law. Dr. Prabhu obtained her medical degree from Dalhousie Medical School in Halifax, Nova Scotia and completed residency training in adult psychiatry and a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at Yale University. Between medical school and residency, she graduated from the McGill Faculty of Law in Montreal, Canada and was an attorney with Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York and the United Nations Independent Inquiry Committee into the Iraq Oil-for-Food program. She completed her undergraduate degree at Harvard College and received a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics. She is the Lead Counsel for Health with the Center for International Sustainable Development Law in Montreal, Canada.
