PROFILE
Tae-won Chey is Chairman of SK Group, a position he has held since 1998. Under his leadership, SK has continued to grow and diversify and today has global operations across multiple industries, including energy, telecommunications and semiconductors. He has also committed SK to maximizing socio-environmental welfare by pursuing social value as an engine of growth.

Mr. Chey is a key contributor to global and regional non-for-profit organizations such as the World Economic Forum and the Boao Forum. As a Chairman of the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies (Chey Institute) and the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies (KFAS), he continues to bolster global outreach through the development of international academic exchanges. He has also founded knowledge sharing platforms in Asia including Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hanoi, Bangkok, and Tokyo.

In 2014, Mr. Chey authored ‘New Attempt: Social Enterprise’, which was published in Korea to critical acclaim. The book underscores the importance of creating enabling ecosystems for social enterprises. In 2019, he co-authored a business case with Stanford University on SK’s ‘Double Bottom Line’, or the Firm’s innovative approach to implementing and adopting ESG accounting as a management system.

Mr. Chey holds a B.A. in Physics from Korea University and completed at Ph.D. Program in Economics at the University of Chicago. He is President of the Korea Handball Federation.
