PROFILE
Born in Tokyo in 1965, NOTOMI graduated from the Faculty of Letters, the University of Tokyo (BA and MA in Philosophy) and obtained his Ph.D. (Classics) from the University of Cambridge. He taught at Kyushu University and Keio University, and since 2016, has been Professor at the Department of Philosophy, the University of Tokyo. Specializing in Ancient Greek Philosophy and classical philology, he has published several books and numerous papers both in English and Japanese on Plato, Socrates, Sophists and other Greek philosophers. His publications include The Unity of Plato’s Sophist (Cambridge University Press, 1999), A History of Greek Philosophy (Chikuma-shobo, 2021, Watsuji Tetsuro Culture Prize). He was the President of the International Plato Society from 2007 to 2010.
