PROFILE
MIYAMOTO “Hirdy” Hideaki is the Director of the Center for Space Resources and Innovation at the University of Tokyo. He is the Principal Investigator of one of the three deployed instruments for NASA’s Artemis III mission, the first human return to the Moon in over half a century. Miyamoto has contributed to numerous planetary missions, including asteroid missions (Hayabusa, Hayabusa2, HERA), lunar missions (Kaguya, LUPEX), and the Martian moon mission (MMX). He received his Ph.D. in Earth and Planetary Science from the University of Tokyo in 2000, having already been appointed Assistant Professor. He became a full Professor in 2016 and also served as an Adjunct Professor at JAXA from 2017 to 2019.
