Silvia Elena Giorguli Saucedo

PROFILE
Silvia Giorguli is president of El Colegio de M?xico until 2020. She has been a professor-researcher at the Center for Demographic, Urban and Environmental Studies since 2003 and was director of this Center from 2009 to 2015. She was president of the Mexican Demographic Society of 2011 to 2012 and founding director of the magazine Coyuntura Demogr?fica. Magazine of the demographic processes in Mexico today, from 2011 to 2014.

Giorguli studied Sociology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, a Master in Demography at El Colegio de M?xico, and the Ph.D. in Sociology at Brown University. In addition, she did a research stay at Stanford University.

Her research has focused on issues of international migration from Mexico to the United States and its consequences on education and family formation for the Mexican population on both sides of the border. Her publications revolve around education, population and public policies.

She currently participates as a researcher in the Mexican Migration Project with the universities of Princeton, Guadalajara and Brown. Likewise, she is a permanent member of the Consultative Council of the Migration Policy of the Ministry of the Interior (SEGOB), of the Consultative Council of UNICEF Mexico, of the Citizen Consultative Council for Population Policy, of the Science Advisory Committee (SAC) of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA); among others.

Professor Silvia Giorguli is a member of the National System of Researchers-level II, of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and of different associations that promote research on population issues.
