Naoko Shimazu is a historian whose work has strong interdisciplinary foundations. She explores how history and historical methods can meaningfully “converse” not only with cognate disciplines in the social sciences and humanities, but also with the sciences, engineering, medicine, and the creative arts. She believes that we need to step outside our comfort zones to engage with new ways of thinking and, moreover, to foster new conversations through radical interdisciplinarity. “Knowledge and Practice” provides a basic framework for exploring how we create knowledge and how we communicate the practice of creating that knowledge to others.
